Exam Question ..... 1500 words....

"Audiences are no longer just consumers of texts, but producers too" - To what extent is this true of the media products in your case study?

Audiences are no longer just consumers due to the fact of each of my primary texts are: Come dine with me, Ready Steady Cook and also the F word. All of which rely upon their audience for a particular result for a winner of the show. Each show has a variety of people in the audience therefore producing a non-biased opinion of a certain chef or the certain dish that has been produced.
How do the audience of my three primary texts create fan pages to gain a larger audience?
All three products show how they have established a bigger target audience who have gained loyalty and also respect due to the social interaction groups they have made. Such as the Come dine with me website where they have created such website about the show or particular people such as the narrator who brings entertainment and humour to the audience. From this we can see that the audience themselves have seen the show and created a group that watches the programme from this they too attract many people to watch the show because they are advertising the show for other people as they can gain influence from this due to the results of other people watching the show and also from their friends.
All three texts show how the audience advertise and also show how they love something such as Wikipedia. This website is based upon an audience member who has given information about the shows and given information about it. Wikipedia is a very successful website where many people visit the website for certain information and from seeing that an audience member has taken time to give this information and prepare it on another website. Furthermore we can also see that a audience member as been a producer in the sense that they have given information for other people to see what the show are about an the basic and advanced information about characters, directors and institutions etc.
How have other institutions created a larger audience for the related programmes?
Other institutions such as newspapers and magazine institutions have created a larger audience for the shows as by them giving a story about them gives a bigger audience for the shows because it gains popularity from the other institutions. By them giving the shows a story makes more people want to watch it because the people who read the magazine will preferably share the same views of the show and if there are positive reviews; more people would watch the show for this reason. Furthermore we can also see how bigger institutions such as IMBD have created pages about the following shows and giving the shows actual blogs for the audience themselves to talk about the shows and share the reviews on how they felt about the show and also how they show their perspective of the show. From this we can see that many people do wish to talk about the show and the shows itself bring a social interaction by the use of other institutions helping them reach a larger audience. We can see from this how other un-official websites and institutions have contributed to their success.
By other institutions talking about the show they can gain more respect and views because of this, as is could be portrayed as the loyal customers of one institution will stay loyal and form their biased opinions of the institution therefore whatever the institutions say they too will believe this so more people will watch these for this benefit.
How do the three primary texts make the audiences participate within the show itself?
Each particular programme show how the audiences are necessary, such as come dine with me where audience members who wish to participate within the show have to apply for it. Therefore showing the importance of the audience because without the main 4 people who are the actual protagonists of the show there would be no come dine with me.
Moreover the f word plays upon the audience giving their own reviews of the actual food given to them, and how other audience members such as celebrities too come on the show to gain a larger audience. The audience give a sense of competition for the show as they choose whether the person who is competing for the show has done good or not. Therefore the audience within this show play a major role as they can predict whether a candidate of the show has done well or not, therefore they create the major role of the show as they make it interesting and show us a natural view and un-biased view of the actual finishing product.
Ready Steady Cook relies on their audience because one audience member within the crowd is randomly picked to cook with the chefs themselves and pick ingredients for the chefs to play around with. The audience also vote upon the best contestant and who they think done the best with the show therefore they too have to pick a winner of the show to make it more interesting and we too as a audience try to vote and pick our favourite as we too would like to participate with the voting scheme.
Which platform empowers audiences the most?
The platform which has the most control in this day and age is e-media. This is because of the increase in technology has made the younger generation (preferably) increase the use of more and more people adding other things about the show as on with e-media news can travel faster than other platforms and it is now created by thousands of people and due to the new search engines such as Google we are able to search whatever information we want for the show. Therefore because the increase of technology upon the internet we can access many websites and see other people’s views from blogs and other social interaction websites.

Lynx advert =S

How does the text follow the codes and convention of an advert?
The codes and convention the trailer follows are that they use the females to be very sexy and seductive; the use of this brings the audience themselves like the advert for this very reason as the men would like to see women try to ‘hunt’ them and in a very aggressive, sexy way.
This also brings a certain amount of ambiguity for the audience as we don’t know who is pulling the actual rope and why they are doing it, this causes the audience to see the rest of the advert because we wish to see the person responsible for the cause of all this danger this man a come across. Furthermore we can see that from the dangers he crosses we have the fear for this person yet excitement because we fear for this man however we want this to happen to cause the audience to get off their seat and for us to feel that this man is in a serious danger.
The director set this in a city to make it look very realistic and for us to as a reader to believe in the world of the trailer. Therefore the message given across is that by wearing this lynx product you will automatically get women. Men would appreciate such beautiful women and they would then go for the product for the message given across, and try this for themselves.
The use of saying ‘all girls prefer dry guys’ implies how to get beautiful women and for the women to be mermaid or known to be the most beautiful creature of the lands, men would take this advise however lynx portray this message through an imperative and that we as an audience have to listen to it and we have no choice.
How are people and places represented in this advert?
The men within this trailer are represented as the dominant kind. This is due to the women trying to seduce the men in an aggressive way and women within this trailer are portrayed in a sexual way, as the mermaid within the trailer are playing a very teasing role with their tops off therefore they are shown to in a negative way as many women would find this to be disrespectful and not tolerated due to their behaviour and the lack of clothing being worn. Furthermore men are also shown to be superior than women in this perspective in the fact that she is trying to seduce him whilst he helplessly tries to stop but she shows animalistic behaviour towards the guy and a sense of desperation.
What techniques does the advert use to appeal to it’s target audience?
The advert uses sexy women to appeal towards it audience as the primary audience for the advert is men who are aged 14-50, and they are more likely to be in the socio economic class of a D, C1, C2 and E. This is because lynx is an established brand however there are products which are better and stand at a higher quality. Furthermore we can see that it is for men because the man himself puts the product on himself and also at the end a narration of women saying that all girls prefer a dry guy; therefore implying the product is for a female. The secondary audience would be men of a higher status or at a higher or lower age of 14 and 50.
What does this text tell us about the media institutions involved?
This shows and conveys to us as an audience that uni leaver are above the beliefs of having dominant ideology and that they higher respects of the male gender. Furthermore uni leaver has stronger beliefs for the male gender as we see that women are portrayed in a negative view.

T-mobile advert =)

What conventions of advertising are evident in this text?
The codes and conventions that are followed within this advert are very persuasive ands quite exciting at the same time. As the music in which many people where dancing to where very popular therefore this could persuade many people to like the advert as it would like a karaoke. The popular music choice where Lulu singing ‘shout’, the pussy cat dolls singing ‘Don’t cha’ and the classical choice of the ‘blue dance’ and also the old school hip hop song ‘get down on it’. All of these songs are targeted at different markets and various different sectors within the consumers of the world such as pussycat dolls are aimed at the new generation, whilst ‘get down on it’ is for the older people who prefer old school songs. Furthermore there is a classical choice for the consumers who are richer and like this music. The music brings excitement and also entertainment for many people as they remember these songs or like a particular song of the choices from it. Audience members would find themselves rather putting the volume up or even listening to the advert for the song itself however it can then be a social interaction between people from the popular choice of music.
In addition to this we see that at the end of the advert that it says “life’s for sharing”. This promotes the advert for the dancing as many people dancing together and having fun but it also promotes the brand itself; because t-mobile are a phone network and they are trying to say that people should phone one another for them to be happier and to do what life is about. Furthermore it also is an imperative because they state what life is about and it is quite life a recognition for the audience what they must do within this life therefore the audience feel that must do this rather than they can do it.
The location however is hosted at Liverpool station, Liverpool being one of the biggest cities in England and being quite popular they are easily recognised by many people. This to shows how the advert gives a familiarity of the where about of the setting and also it shows that’s t-mobile to want to share the information about themselves.
How is technology represented in this advertisement?
The representation of technology is represented in a positive way as t-mobile show that they give this product to us to ‘share’. Therefore by using such language it shows that technology want us to be as if we are a family and technology gives a sense of happiness towards many people therefore technology is portrayed to be a happy and positive feature within this advert.
What is communicated about the T-Mobile brand and the experience it offers?Through the institution of T-mobile we learn about that they give us an experience of network that can provide excellence within it, furthermore we see that hey promote the product by using the emotions of happiness and to a certain extent; guilt. We see this through the fact that life’s for sharing, we then see that we must share and acknowledge what we must do as a consumer and how we must see life through a different perspective. Furthermore we see t-mobile then to be a better brand and that they too follow the pathways of life and the morals of a good healthy living standard.
What target audience are T-Mobile aiming to attract in this advertisement?
the target audience for t-mobile is quite significant because it applies for both genders as both are applicable to getting the product. However the age range is quite big such as being from 12-55. This is because the music indicates different ages such as classical which is preferred by the older people and old school hip hop is preferred by the middle aged people whilst the new music is for the younger target audience. the socio economic group is for everyone because there are no higher and expensive networks as they all differ within price ranges and the secondary audience would be a older target audience because they too would have a mobile phone that they most likely to rarely use.

O no here comes the intro.....

Throughout the media today, products can promote themselves by showing themselves across three media platform these are: E-media, print and also broadcast. All three case studies I have chosen cover each of these platforms. The texts I have chosen to do are: Come dine with me, Ready Steady Cook and also The F word. All three cross the gratifications of all the media today. Furthermore I have researched information about the three texts, and my research shows that each platform relates and promotes the other platform. All of which try to create a larger audience and gain a larger revenue for the institution behind the actual programme themselves.

Car advert =)

Which advertising techniques being used?
A technique used within this trailer is humour with the child driving the car. This technique a lot of people because many would want to watch the trailer several amount of times. Therefore it would usually attract many people for this particular reason. Furthermore it shows a sense of simplicity within the vehicle itself and it’s an advanced technology therefore it promotes the product because people would want to have the best car yet for it to be at a highly advanced. As the narrator at the end says “the next generation” therefore it shows it is suitable for the baby driving it. However people would want the new technology of cars and the best possible car possible. Furthermore the car shows that it is fun and exciting due to the smiles and laughter of the children, which portrays the car to be a good fun car and for it to be very exciting for the driver and passengers. Also for the child to sit in the back and for the storage kept it shows the car is very efficient and is a family car because it is very spacious and very convenient for putting stuff in the car.

How is gender represented in this advertisement?
Within this advertisement we can see that both genders are portrayed in a positive way however, the men are the more dominant ones. As the baby boy is driving the car and also is the one who participates in all the activities (surfing) whilst the baby girl is only sitting and watching the male surfing and enjoying himself. But the female can only enjoy the actual view. The male figure represents high stereotypes of a person such as his ‘charming’ blue eyes, he is white therefore he shows dominant ideology.

What is communicated about the Hyundai brand and the experience it offers?
We can see that Hyundai shows typical advanced technology of the ‘next generation’ however the child shows that the car itself conveys simplicity and for the car to be very easy and useful in all conditions and reasons. Furthermore we can see that it shows that the car is for all uses both family uses and non- family uses because the conventions of this car is for it to be a family car however it shows it to be fun and a young car for its advanced technology. Additionally the car shows equality between all people because it shows anyone can have an enjoyable time in the car and how it can be suitable for any person.
Who is target audience and how does the advert attempt to persuade this audience to buy the product?
The audience for this particular product would be primarily a family car for an age of 25-50 because most people would settle to have a comfortable car for their family and would want a car for the family rather than a fast sports car for themselves. Furthermore the car would be for people at a C1. C2 and D social class because they would be able to afford this type of car as Hyundai isn’t the most expensive car on the street, and this car would be for a male to drive it. Moreover the secondary audience for this product would to be for a woman to drive it and for her to be quite the soccer mum.

Kidhulthood Trailer

1)      What technique does the trailer use to persuade its audience?

The trailer had a montage of different techniques within the trailer such as the use of ambiguity. We see this throughout the trailer and this is because it makes the audience want to see the end result of the actual drama. Furthermore we can see that a our protagonist has fallen in the pathway that leads him towards a negative future and we then see him saying to his foe’s family member saying that he is “Sam’s friend “ this create tension because we can see that he could actual affect his family or cause catastrophe within this particular persons (Sam) life.
In addition to this we can see certain aspect that the trailer follows such as the use of being a gangster genre it follow the same expected conventions we such as violence, drugs and death. Death is symbolic within this trailer as at first we see a person at gun point and is close to death. We then come to realise that this trailer could have a circular patterns of this being the end of a person’s life or whether they live. This is left ambiguous because we foreshadow the forth coming event. Furthermore from the props of the trailer such as the use of a gun we can see that pain, and anguish will be involved within the trailer and we as an audience only want to see the dramatic scene therefore the violence within this only show certain shots of several different fights. Such as the Point of view shot where we as an audience can see a fist flying towards someone’s face and hits them. This makes us as a want to see the film because we feel that we are involved with this situation. It only makes a implied audience because we are drawn in through the use of 1st person as we can see the film through another person’s perspective.
As it is a gangster trailer we see many violent scenes, we see typical stereotypes of black people being very violent and also the use of teenagers being a rebel, with their hooded tops and their ‘own’ language (slang). We can then foreshadow that this narrative is going to be about teenagers growing up within a negative society. However we want to endure this journey with our characters due to the sense that some may relate to this kind of behaviour and only wish to see their own problems through another person’s view and how they have up-come these situations. Their actions make us think why they do certain things such as theft; many people would also see this film to see what a teenager’s life is about and how they have come up through society living around such terrible conditions and also terrible influence. Moreover we can see this as the trailer uses realism within it to show that this narrative is only but a story of an actual teenager’s life. Therefore by using such a method we can see that the audience would want to see the ‘real world’ they live in and how society their self portray themselves behind the closed doors.

2)      How is gender represented?

Gender within this trailer is only represented in a negative way; we can see this from the use of violence and other forms of given information. Males are predominantly shown to be the stronger and more superior gender due to their verbal and physical actions. We can see that females through this trailer are shown to only be an object such as when the male figure (Sam) kisses a girl and so stands their only receiving the kiss from the person but her facial expressions show her fear of the person as she fears not top retaliate towards this person. The males within this are shown to be very powerful due to the violence and also are they have been dressed such as the stereotype of wearing a hooded top is shown to be a sign of negativity, violence, and also the typical message within every teenager.

The female gender within is shown to be very weak and are looked down upon by many characters within this; such as the punch towards a woman’s from a male figure only shows how they think of this person. Also when a person at the beginning speaks to his friends he shows no sign of respects towards women and only shows her to be a sex object. Female show that they respect the men however if they don’t respect them t is not an issue such as when the female ask politely, “excuse me, you came with me” and the male rudely tells her using an imperative rather than conversational tone says, “na, you came with me! ” this shows the dominance with the two genders and how two are conveyed in both negative however shown in a different level upon the hierarchy of society.

3)      What target audience would be attracted to this film?

The target audience for this particular film trailer would predominantly be males aged 15-21. This is because many figures this age can relate to this story. The socio economic class for this would be a C2 and a D this is because they show alternative ideology and many people at this class would see this film because a higher class would want to see a film that follows dominant ideology. The interest of the audience would be a young person, studying at high school or college however they have certain views of themselves, other and society. Violence is an up and coming problem for them and they are shown to be a ‘ghetto’ person and so no care of the world but themselves and their main duties to themselves. They would be quite poor and live in a dreadful society that gives no opportunities
The secondary audience would be a female gender and male of an age above 21 and younger than 15. These people would have certain aspect of the situation but are not involved in these situations.

4)      What low budget values and characteristics can you identify?

We can see that that the industries are not popular and that they don’t show popularity within their other films been produced therefore we can see them to be low budget. In addition to this we can see that there was no director named within the trailer so we can foretell that the director is not popular and hasn’t produced the best of films. Therefore we can also see from this information that it was low budget because we can see that the director has chosen to do a film that follows alternative ideology. Furthermore we cannot see famous actors for the roles given because they could not afford the famous actors to do the scenes therefore they had to settle for the minor actors within the acting industry. Lastly we can see that it is low budget because we can see that there were no major stunts done and shoot in society and not in a actual film studio.
