Essay on The sun advert........

1)      The codes and conventions used within The sun’s advert is such techniques such a humour. Humour is used throughout the advert to grab the attention of the audience and for people to realise what kind of newspaper the sun is. Therefore by using humour it stays in audiences mind due to grabbing the attention of the audience furthermore it also brings certain types of actions from the viewers due to it being hysterical many people take action and are more venerable towards buying the newspaper itself and also it is portrayed as a desire towards the audience as the humour makes it irresistible to buy and by the certain type of popular stories within the newspaper it also attract many people due to the huge gossip of the story. The sun is portrayed these stories as the ‘hottest’ news as they have the most popular people within the country to attract a more target audience. Furthermore another technique used is parody towards apples iphone, which also brings humour towards the reader and grabs their attention as The sun have tried to convey that the iphone compared to The sun is not match as it is a more physical resource, and a necessity within life; therefore it is conveyed as a need rather than a desirable product.

Moreover the typical codes and conventions used in the advert is the narrator. By using the narrator it makes it more indirect to the audience and grabs their attention to buy the newspaper. The narrator says The sun is the “must have handheld accessory” therefore it is yet again portrayed a need within life and humour is used by them using certain aspect of iphones, such as they have to download news however this is a conveyed as the a easy product and also the traditional and main functional use of news to be past around.

They show The sun as a everyday used product and a more every day used product, therefore is targets ordinary people and people want to fit into the ordinary category  therefore they automatically think that buying this product they must become ordinary and have the latest gossip to share and pass on to the other people to socialise with. Additionally they use good advantages for the institution by saying it is 100% recyclable therefore making The sun a better institution as more people would want to help the world due the crisis it is currently in; global warming.  They have shown the newspaper to be very easy and also very reliable and trustworthy; “no hidden charges” due to the problems with technology it lowers the thoughts of it as with a newspaper there is only but one price to pay and it is easier to pay for as with technology it is harder and creates more stress upon the audience, and with the newspaper there is less stress and more relaxing piece of news.

They have made The sun look cheaper than technology as the person passes over pennies towards the other person to show how affordable the actual newspaper is and how gives news yet is very cheap. This product attracts many people as it strikes the attention of many people as they would think it to be a bargain and a desirable product to buy.

2)      Technology is conveyed is a negative way and The sun using parody shows this as, they say such thing as: “no hidden charges” and also “better than downloading” therefore The sun is trying to show that technology is harder to gain news and is a difficult resource to rely on due to it not being fast enough for us to read the news and not receive it fast but The sun only accepts the traditional methods of society such as reading newspapers as it is done with ease and it is only much easier  to use. As technology increases touch screen comes to thought, however it is harder to use however The sun has many games and has “pen touch interface” making it seem that it is a easier and more physical resource to use and also a more reliable resource to use as it is in front of you and it is not harder to see any writing or “turning it side ways to make it look easier”. The sun make it out that the iphone is very hard to use and is very difficult to do such things a newspaper can such as looking at images, reading and also playing such games as Sudoku, by saying such negativity towards the iphone and such positivity towards The sun it is shown as the superior and the more dominant ways of receiving news.

3)      The institution is shown in a very positive way as it brings humour towards the advert. From this we can acknowledge that The sun’s news is very hysterical and believable. As the advert is shown to tell us the truth about technology and the disadvantages behind the actual object. From this we can see that the news given by The sun would be realistic stories, very funny as we can tell from the narrator of the advert and how he uses certain aspects of both hard and soft news within the newspaper. Furthermore we can see from the images shown we can see that gossip of celebrities and also sports is shown therefore we can see that they also show what many people want to see and also the most popular stories such as showing Manchester United as then most popular football teams within Britain many people would want to see the issues raised about them and find out the latest gossip of them. However they also show such stories of Rhianna to show the more gossip side of them and how they can give a variety of stories. The sun is portrayed as the best newspaper as it shows various different stories they show within the newspaper. Furthermore their stories are shown to be less stressful and more of a fun newspaper, we can see this by the certain types of games being played by the person and also we can clearly see their point which is the big images and the ordinary sized writing to create less tension for the reader and for the reader to feel more relaxed whilst reading. Making The sun shown as a ordinary newspaper that also share the same values as a everyday person. The sun also share traditional values as would many people would like as they would offer news and they too share these qualities.

4)      The target audience chosen for The sun is a aged 16-45 audience for many reasons. One of which they use humour which will entertain many people and less likely to entertain a much older audience because they would prefer more hard news rather than soft news. Therefore by producing such news like this (hard and soft news) is attracts more younger people for the gossip of it, as they showed the most popular people within the industries such as Rhianna and Robbie Williams who are very recognised people within the industries and many young people would inspire to reach their aspects of life so by reading about them they will be inspired yet entertained by this particular news. However we can see that The sun attracts a more male audience, we can see this by looking at the huge sports section they have which will attract more men due to them liking sports in a further depth than females would. The socio economic class for The sun is mostly a C1, C2, D and E. This is because C1 and C2 would want hysterical news however also want some hard news and this offers both and E due to the soft news such as sports, and gossip which entertains a younger audience, and the newspaper is very affordable so more students would buy this newspaper.  The psychographical content for this newspaper is a male, at working class, a very sporty individual that shares very manly ego’s and wants to be shown as the dominant one within society and the more macho person.
