Exam Question ..... 1500 words....

"Audiences are no longer just consumers of texts, but producers too" - To what extent is this true of the media products in your case study?

Audiences are no longer just consumers due to the fact of each of my primary texts are: Come dine with me, Ready Steady Cook and also the F word. All of which rely upon their audience for a particular result for a winner of the show. Each show has a variety of people in the audience therefore producing a non-biased opinion of a certain chef or the certain dish that has been produced.
How do the audience of my three primary texts create fan pages to gain a larger audience?
All three products show how they have established a bigger target audience who have gained loyalty and also respect due to the social interaction groups they have made. Such as the Come dine with me website where they have created such website about the show or particular people such as the narrator who brings entertainment and humour to the audience. From this we can see that the audience themselves have seen the show and created a group that watches the programme from this they too attract many people to watch the show because they are advertising the show for other people as they can gain influence from this due to the results of other people watching the show and also from their friends.
All three texts show how the audience advertise and also show how they love something such as Wikipedia. This website is based upon an audience member who has given information about the shows and given information about it. Wikipedia is a very successful website where many people visit the website for certain information and from seeing that an audience member has taken time to give this information and prepare it on another website. Furthermore we can also see that a audience member as been a producer in the sense that they have given information for other people to see what the show are about an the basic and advanced information about characters, directors and institutions etc.
How have other institutions created a larger audience for the related programmes?
Other institutions such as newspapers and magazine institutions have created a larger audience for the shows as by them giving a story about them gives a bigger audience for the shows because it gains popularity from the other institutions. By them giving the shows a story makes more people want to watch it because the people who read the magazine will preferably share the same views of the show and if there are positive reviews; more people would watch the show for this reason. Furthermore we can also see how bigger institutions such as IMBD have created pages about the following shows and giving the shows actual blogs for the audience themselves to talk about the shows and share the reviews on how they felt about the show and also how they show their perspective of the show. From this we can see that many people do wish to talk about the show and the shows itself bring a social interaction by the use of other institutions helping them reach a larger audience. We can see from this how other un-official websites and institutions have contributed to their success.
By other institutions talking about the show they can gain more respect and views because of this, as is could be portrayed as the loyal customers of one institution will stay loyal and form their biased opinions of the institution therefore whatever the institutions say they too will believe this so more people will watch these for this benefit.
How do the three primary texts make the audiences participate within the show itself?
Each particular programme show how the audiences are necessary, such as come dine with me where audience members who wish to participate within the show have to apply for it. Therefore showing the importance of the audience because without the main 4 people who are the actual protagonists of the show there would be no come dine with me.
Moreover the f word plays upon the audience giving their own reviews of the actual food given to them, and how other audience members such as celebrities too come on the show to gain a larger audience. The audience give a sense of competition for the show as they choose whether the person who is competing for the show has done good or not. Therefore the audience within this show play a major role as they can predict whether a candidate of the show has done well or not, therefore they create the major role of the show as they make it interesting and show us a natural view and un-biased view of the actual finishing product.
Ready Steady Cook relies on their audience because one audience member within the crowd is randomly picked to cook with the chefs themselves and pick ingredients for the chefs to play around with. The audience also vote upon the best contestant and who they think done the best with the show therefore they too have to pick a winner of the show to make it more interesting and we too as a audience try to vote and pick our favourite as we too would like to participate with the voting scheme.
Which platform empowers audiences the most?
The platform which has the most control in this day and age is e-media. This is because of the increase in technology has made the younger generation (preferably) increase the use of more and more people adding other things about the show as on with e-media news can travel faster than other platforms and it is now created by thousands of people and due to the new search engines such as Google we are able to search whatever information we want for the show. Therefore because the increase of technology upon the internet we can access many websites and see other people’s views from blogs and other social interaction websites.
