Blackpool =)

What techniques does the opening sequence use to appeal to a weekday mainstream audience?
The characters within this opening sequence portray a certain typical stereotype of a normal family of four. The father within the opening sequence is portrayed as the typical dominant man who is rich and the superior one in the family who is in control. We are inspired this character due his dominance of the family and wealth as we would want his life style of going out and dressing nicely to go to what seems to be a family outing. The family is conveyed to be very excited due to the song as everyone sings along therefore making them a united family who are singing together. The women shares typical women stereotypes and the shot of her doing her nails only promote her being a typical women, her shots are mainly with her husband where she is sitting down to portray that she is inferior to him and that she portrays a normal wife who listens to their husband view. However by her living this glamorous life we as an audience aspire to live her life as it seems to be carm and it seems that her husband does most of the work. The daughter however shows typical childish views of being on the phone, this attracts a more younger audience as would want to see this character even more as more character like this young girl would want to reflect life with hers and she how she is treated and her life styles. Moreover the son is portrayed as a rebellious character; we can foreshadow him being like this due to his clothes and him being outside smoking therefore we come under a impression that this character will show a typical stereotype of boys being boys. By having a rebellious character we can see that he is the bump with the family and he also shows  family aspect as he does go into the car with the family therefore we want to see what his life would be like and how this characters behaviours are.
How does the extract follow the codes and conventions of an opening sequence?
The codes and conventions that this trailer follows are parallel to other trailer as we can see basic conventions being shown. Such as the institution, this is shown to show who has made the show and due to the BBC being such a big well known they can take the success and develop the audiences attention to the fact that the BBC have made the show therefore it can get more viewers. Moreover due to the BBC being a government funded company we can expect that the show will be quite a hit and for it to be successful. Moreover as it is government funded we can foreshadow that the show of Blackpool will be interesting as the government will only show dominant ideology and positive features of the show. Furthermore the credits of the directors are shown to show recognition and see whether the audience know the directors or producers to see if they know there success and for it to shine upon this show to give the audience to foreshadow that this show will be successful. Also due to the recognition of the characters many people would want to watch the show because of the characters. As many people would want to know their roles upon the show and how they show relevance towards their characters. The theme song of the show is a huge hit due to phenomenal recognition of it. The song can draw in readers from an older age due to the iconic singer (Elvis Presley) as this song was in a much older time. And the success of the song can reflect upon the show as many people would start to think that this show seems to be good which would want to see it even more.
What does the text tell us about the media institution?
The text portrays a positive view of Blackpool, as the assumptions of Blackpool have been quite negative the BBC being government funded and owned will only want to portray a positive view and for them to show dominant ideology. The institution behind this have set Blackpool to be the las Vegas of England and that the night life, casinos and the clubbing are at a high standard and it is almost conveyed as a extravagant life.

Harry Potter =)

1)    The basic trailer conventions shown within this trailer are that we have been clearly introduced to our protagonist who is Harry and we are also introduced to the other characters within the movie. This affect makes the audience anxious for their role and the purpose of their character and why they bring importance towards the film. Moreover we have a brief story for what is going to happen and this makes the audience want to know more and for the audience to foreshadow what’s going on but we are more anxious to watch the movie and to witness the real story. Moreover we see basic conventions such as the release date which gets us excited as this date is where we can become an eyewitness from seeing the movie so we get excited until the date comes. The storyline has also been briefly told and due to the success of the other and this one being the last it would known as the “phenomenal”. Furthermore as the success of the others we can predict certain aspects for the trailer such as the director and title and characters names.

2)    The genre of Harry potter is a fantasy yet an action packed movie due to the sudden outcome of fights and certain narratives within the story. We can see this from the long shots shown to show the whole action scene and also we can see that is a fantasy due to the tracking shots and the close up of characters as this shows the expressions and the tracking shows the use of the characters travel such as the floating bike, driving through the air. In addition to this the mise-en-scene shows it is a fantasy due to the setting around the characters will never be used for any other genre, such as a forest which promotes the violence which occurs, the school where the fictional characters learn and the props such as the floating bike shows the genre as this is not realistic. The non-digetic sound within the trailer also shows the action within the film due to the dramatic music to get us excited and tense moreover the theme song we are familiar with is played so we get excited once we heard this as we know it is the basic harry potter movie.

3)    The target audience for the particular movie is an audience from a primary audience of 15- 21 due to the genre we can expect that these are the more likely to watch this movie. Therefore the socio economic class for this movie would be an E, D1 and a C. Furthermore the secondary audience is likely to be older or even younger. The genre of a fantasy is targeted at a younger audience due to them being more immature and in the fantasy movies.

4)    The film has been successful for promoting its film due to them having their continued success from their other movie therefore the success of the other movies and the books also promote this movie. The trailer has been successful as it has informed many people of the movie yet it hasn’t given too much away, therefore we as a audience are more anxious to see the movie.

New Moon =)

1)      The techniques used within this are to persuade the reader of the film, the techniques used the use of suspense, as we want to know as a audience the dangers she wishes to face and how will this guy come into her life to save her. And due to the person saying “they could kill us all” we fear that many of our hero’s and the good people within this film might die due to the knowledge she withholds. Additionally the use of dialogue within the trailer and non-diegetic music creates tension towards our character as we feel fear and tense as we don’t know what could occur and the dangerous paths our protagonist can pass and as an audience we only wish for her safety. Moreover due to the pace of the trailer speeding up and the switch of each shot going very fast we feel that this movie can bring entertainment yet we feel scared and want to see what will happen. Furthermore at one shot it says “from the worldwide best seller” we feel that if we have not seen this and it is worldwide we are only but missing out on the most popular thing in the world therefore as an audience we feel that we must fit into society and we must be like every other person. Also the use cliff hanger towards the ends makes us feel more intense and we feel that our protagonists ‘boyfriend’ may die and we want to see whether he dies or not. In contrast to this due to the success if the first movie many would want to see the next one to how the story can change and what exciting scenes it may bring therefore due to the success of the other movie this can bring more people wanting to see the “next chapter”.

2)      Women within this trailer have been portrayed to be more powerful due to having the protagonist to be women herself. Women are portrayed to be more in charge however still the same characteristics and stereotypes the lead, such as our protagonist leading towards immature things such as try to kill herself however the man has to come save her. This leads a typical stereotype of women as they get their self within a predicament and the men have to save them for their stupidity.  Moreover the men are portrayed to be the more dominant and the alpha male type. As they have been conveyed as the strong, masculine, violent type as they are doing most of the violent scenes and saving our protagonist.

3)      The target audience for this film is both gender due to our protagonist being a women and how she tries to show her dominance, and it is targeted at the male gender due to all the violence within the scene and the fighting. Due to the violence this cannot be shown for a young age audience therefore no below 15 and due to the mythical narrative it cannot be an audience above 30. Therefore the primary target audience is 16-25 as they would understand and enjoy such a story.

4)      The Hollywood values this trailer shows is the institution they show at the beginning. Summit entertainment has launched a huge campaign and a premier for the movie which leads the same values in which a Hollywood premier does. Moreover due to the text “from the worldwide best seller” we immediately think that is going to be good due to the fame it has already come across and due to the success of the director we can foreshadow that this movie will be good.

Untouchables =)

1.       Suspense is created throughout the scene; due to the fact we have a fear factor for our protagonist and also the defenceless mother and her baby. The shootings continue whilst the baby continue to falls so we fear and suspense builds due to the risk of the baby dying. We first acknowledge the protagonist trying to help the mother and child however by him coming across the anti-hero’s who wish the death of our protagonist. Suspense is built through the tempo of shots as at first we see long takes and then we start to see the rapid fire and the tempo of shot increase from individual to another. Additionally the point of view shots bring us suspense as we figure out why he looks at the clock and the outcome of the clock reaching its final time. Moreover the point of view shots looking at the mother and baby make us think if they will be ok or not. The cuts from the pram to other characters create suspense as we want to know whether the baby will reach safety or whether it will reach its fatal doom. Also the protagonist analysis of the hall makes us think what could happen and suspense creates as we don’t know what would happen and we as a audience are very anxious. Furthermore the slow motion creates suspense as we fear for the protagonist, mothers and baby’s life .

2.       Time has expand due to various techniques; due to the slow motion of the whole scene the tension and suspense has built as we feel more anxious to know who will survive and who will die, however the main issue is whether the baby will survive and due to the slow motion and the human mind we feel that the scene takes forever as we only want the safety of the baby to happen, however it feels like it will never reach safety due to the fear we have for the baby.

By the way miss my friend done this to the colour

GHD advert =)

Codes and Conventions
The techniques used on this add is an imperative due to the use of it being a ‘gospel’ it set aside the fact that it is but a straightener but a part of life therefore it appeals to its target audience as this straightener is a necessity within life. Additionally it uses religion and repetition with the word “thou shall not”; it only draws the audience in to think that they have to use this straightener for not only their selves but for it to be a fashion necessity with life, as it reflects upon the 10 commandments. The use of it being black and white also makes it seem as if were to be set in the distant past which heightens the fact it is to do with religion. Moreover the women are set out to be slick and sexy to increase viewers. Women would aspire to have such beautiful hair and be so miraculously stunning whilst guys would be attracted by the other gender forcing them to buy it for their girlfriends or wives. In contrast to this, in Maslow theory the advert sets it out to be a physiological need and the subliminal messages conveyed through it supports this but it is only but an esteem need. The use of emotive images also supports people to buy this product as these ‘sexy’ women have achieved their goals by using the straightener.
 Representation
Gender within this advert has been portrayed in various different ways. One way is which to say that women are conveyed as a violent gender, due to the violence within the advert. The advert try to use violence to show the ‘secret’ of the straightener and that no one else can use it apart from the owner herself. Furthermore the stereotype of women has been portrayed in this for women to be jealous and bitchy, as one woman stabs another by using voodoo, whilst another viciously attacks another for using her straightener. Moreover women are conveyed as sexy, slick appealing objects due to one women biting her lip whilst the another women falls back defencelessly with a seductive look upon her face to attract more people, from both genders.
Media Institution
The institutions that have been considered have created a negative impact on society itself, and have discriminated against peoples beliefs. Religion has been considered within this: “thou shall not” this goes against the Christianity religion and many may protest against such quotes as this was one of the 10 commandments that had been said, additionally it is been said as a “Gospel” therefore treating the straightener as religion and saying that you need this. This can cause controversy between Christian believers and it could be portrayed as GHD taking religion as a joke. Moreover due to the black and white colour scheme it also adds to the fact that it is to do with religion and to boost the fact about how it is one of the commandments. Violence is an attribute that has been influenced, this is negative as two females fighting over a straightener can cause other people to act like this and for people to act like these gorgeous women as many would aspire to be like some. Finally the women seem to gain a sexual appetite throughout the advert, from the women falling down, to the women deceiving her dead loved one. These scenes can portray women in a negative view which can affect other women’s views as they are conveyed as sex objects within this advert. To conclude E4 is a channel where the viewers are both gender and aged at 15-35, this is the primary target audience for GHD, this advert can show that this channel can support such behaviour due to its programmes been shown so both the advert and the channel have something in common.
Audience
The main target audience for this advert primarily targets women with all straight hair and women with other styles to show the ‘amazing’ look you can receive by using this. The target audience’s socio economic class is a B1 or a C, and the age it targets at it teenager from 15 to women aged 35. However the secondary audience is other people with long hair, this can be targeted at both genders.

Kill bill scene

The first shot of the scene consists of a low angle shot, with basic necessities within a room such as lights. The mise en scene has a woman in a combat suit kneeling down to get a sword we as an audience can foreshadow that danger is to come. In addition to this the next scene unravels itself by introducing another character from a medium shot at a low angle to show she is superior and for us to look up to her, the camera tilts up to see her face and we feel tempted to see who she is as we want to see the danger to come. She to holds a sword to show that these two could have a action pact scene. There is silence between the two to create tension between the audience and for us to also think of the next scene. However the 1st women is shown in a high angle shot to show she is inferior with a cut so we immediately think she is inferior to the women as she is shown in a low angle shot. The sounds in the background can connate escape between the two or rather a ‘race’ (fight). The scene of which she stabs the dagger within the wood shows her power and strength, and by shooting this a medium shot we can she her full power and strength she has put into sword. The close up of the two shows their mixed emotions and we feel tense and we can foreshadow that the Chinese women is superior as she contains a great deal of confidence. The conversation between the two makes us think that an action scene is about to come “you didn’t think it would be that easy” we can tell that this person would have to reach vertical limits into reaching her aim within this scene (digetic sound). The editing with this builds the tension for the action scene to come.
The next scene shows the break through of several different characters and the quick transactions, automatically makes us think that this women is in grave danger. All shots are taken at a low angle to show that these fighters are not among the best however the quick transaction makes us think that these characters will cause controversy. All shots are a long shot to show their men within the scene and due to them shouting we can tell they are all looking for a fight. Also the mise en scene is that all opponents are wearing the same clothing so they are all together and all want the same ‘price’. The editing from the running scene to the faces and them all surrounding the person shows they all are very egger to get to this person and want her to be frightful and surrender.
The scene where it turns blue consists of low lighting to show negative emotions as if there is no hope; however the editing consists from a medium shot to long shots to show all the scenes and the medium shot shows where she kills her foe. The sounds are swords hitting of each other and we get excited about this and screams of pain as our protagonist kills off the other victims around her. The digetic sound also brings tension as we want to see it all in a close up but the director has only made us more anxious.

Miss. Wigley media cover work

At first we see a close-up, this is for the when we see this we feel more involved and we can tell the true expressions of actors, as in 'kicks' at first we can see that this person is emotionally in distress and the camera tilts down therefore showng us another character maybe or a lover as she is lying down and has her hand on it. By panning down towards this character we foreshadow what is about to happen, and due to the lighting being dim and quite sad we feel this person is emotionally upset and by sitting in the dark we foreshadow that this person could be quite lonely in life.
There are 3 shots placed together to show how this persons life style is portrayed, one is where she is walking, then she goes to the wall then the 3rd shot we see the guy. We then think this girl is obsessed with this male character, and maybe is in love with him. the long shot at first shows her lonelyness and the dim lighting upon her face can show her emotions as a dark colour is normally connoting sadness, heartbreak and lots of negative emotions. We then have a extreme close up at her face and the wall, so we feel as if we to are near her as the camera is on the side of her, so we then feel as if we are there next to her as if it was a secret as she presses her ear against the wall, then as we see the guy we find out the reason for all of this, as it could be love. The medium shot of the guy, with a medium anle shot panning slowly across shows us the importance of this person, we see different people with him playing football so he could be very 'cool' and the hot shot of the film.
We then see a medium shot of the girl braking a glass, at a medium angle, following by a low angle shot of glass falling then a extreme cloe up at the girls eye closed followed by a close-up of the girls from her eye zoomed out then tilts to her body, then the shot continues to her arm and she tatoo's herself so we can see her pain due to the close up at a high angle shot to show she is now inferior and has given up, and the lighint is at the back so we feel a bit scared of this girl because due to the editing of these shots we can see she is quite scared and dangerous herself.
We then have a shot to the right of her where she meets someone at slight a high angle, to show she is coming back down and this 'friend' can bring her happiness and we see this in the following shot of both girl having fun then we see the other friend at a medium shot but at a medium angle with dark lighting, grassy lands and a old windmill, and old windmill connotes horror as it is in the typical horror movie, were all can go wrong but then the next shot is a close up of both friends at a low angle, this shows their happiness and fun they are having. By editing this we can then see that these two are friends, and together they can provide each other happiness.
We have a long shot of both friends dancing then we a man sitting down watching, at a medium shot to show that all is good with everyone within the room, the room has a fadeed light to show the romance between the three, and to show the happiness between them. The next shot to that is a shot of the friend kissing the other girl at a close up and at a low angle to show that the girl is now superior to the other girl and is know at he high light of her life.
In addition to this we have two shots which follow each other, at first we see a close up of the males eye with another, possibly the girls hands going across his face, we see that he has a tear to his eye to show his emotions, we see that he is upset and we can think that this girl is the reason for this, then the shot continues with the camera zoomed out with the male having a direct mode of address towards the camera to show how hopeless he is to the girl and by the close up, we only see her hands to see her sdominance towards this person as if she now has full control of this person.
